‘Twas a few months before the Christmas of 2015. The summer season was almost upon us, bringing 38 degree days, trips to the beach, and the need for an urgent sun safety reminder that is so important for us Australians.
An idea hit us like humidity in December. What if we took an age-old Christmas tradition and made it our very own, all while promoting sun safety in a nation with one of the highest instances of skin cancer in the world?
The Ugly Xmas Rashie was born.
Within two days of launching, the original Kangaroo design had completely sold out. Hundreds of people shared their pics across social media (including the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Hugh Jackman) and by Christmas, a new festive tradition was declared by our national broadcasters.
The Ugly Xmas Rashie continued to pick up steam, and a limited edition, all-Aussie design has been released every year since. Tens of thousands of rashies have been purchased by supporters in 26 countries worldwide.
We’re proud to have raised a whopping $472,000 so far, supporting causes such as cancer prevention and research, and surf safety patrols, equipment and training. In 2023, we’re continuing our journey of support with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, donating proceeds to help protect and restore this unique living wonder. Donations will help fund groundbreaking projects including the Coral Probiotics, the Raine Island Recovery Project, and Coral IVF.
Rock on, rashie wearers! We couldn’t do it without you.
